KRZ is proud to partner with the Maine Harbor Master Association, serving as a resource to the Association’s members and providing annual instruction since at least 2000. KRZ maritime attorney Stephen Koerting has presented on a variety of topics at the Association’s annual training each year since he joined KRZ in 2016.
At this year’s 39th Annual Conference and Training at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine, Attorney Koerting’s educational presentation focused on topics of waterfront landowners and riparian rights in Maine. Attorney Koerting provided the statewide members with historical background of the Public Trust Doctrine, the Colonial Ordinance of 1641-47, and pertinent legal actions including the Moody Beach litigation and Goose Rocks Beach litigation, before leading a lively group discussion about the impact of riparian rights on the duties and responsibilities of Maine’s harbor masters and harbor commissions.
