Kelly, Remmel & Zimmerman is pleased to announce that attorneys Emily Atkins and Stephen Koerting, both 2016 magna cum laude graduates from the University of Maine, School of Law, have joined the firm.
Emily Atkins focuses her practice on commercial, real estate, and business matters. During law school she was an articles editor on the Maine Law Review, a student member of the Edward Thaxter Gignoux Inn of Court and held a fellowship with the Portland District Court. She also participated in externships with the U.S. Attorney’s Office Appellate Division and the City of Portland’s legal department. Additionally, she was a student attorney with the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic and the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office. Emily is a native of Maine. She holds a B.A. in philosophy from Boston College and has also served abroad in the Peace Corps.
Stephen Koerting primarily works in the fields of general civil litigation, personal injury and family law. While in law school, Stephen clerked with Kelly, Remmel & Zimmerman, was a member of the Trial Competition Team, served as Assistant Coach for the First Year Students’ Legal Writing & Moot Court Program and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Ocean & Coastal Law Journal. He also worked as a student attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic where he represented dozens of clients in an array of legal actions, including civil actions, family matters, domestic violence hearings, juvenile proceedings, and criminal charges.
